Not an issue - more of a suggestion. Do you think it would be worth having some sort of pretty clear statement up front about the spirit that we want people to use this forum in? i.e. keep it constructive and friendly, banter and taking the piss is okay but keep it good natured etc?

In this modern age we do seem to be falling behind in promoting our class. In particular to younger people and those who have had enough of lasers etc. I have a few ideas to start the discussion off. There is a definite need for us to get out amongst different clubs with large fleets to show that we are competitive and friendly, which is something every one needs to take an active part in. At present as a newbie I see that we go to the same venues each year, we should as a group come up with other locations and reintroduce the class to them. I think that we could do with a register of boats that is easily accessible to others on line. The register could have boats that are active, boats that are not active and could be up for sale, boats which are up for sale and a missing boat section for ones which are lost in time and could be burried in someones shed. This would help us find boats for new people to get in the class. On another tack, as a class we could do with some more modern video footage posted showing off the class. The clip of the 74? worlds is a bit dated and there is nothing of any real substance on Youtube. Maybe some one knows a camera buff who likes making videos and we could invite them to the next nationals or to one of our popular regattas, make a big deal out of it and get as many as possible to attend. (Plenty of video footage on youtube of Lasers) and young people use this medium a lot, also getting off of facebook was not a good idea, it has isolated us from the general populaces and this forum can only be found by ourselves which is self defeating. The new rig is a great idea and that needs to be promoted, there are still lots of people who think that they are not the right size for an Ok, not realising the advantages of the new technology which has leveled the playing field considerably. Just some ideas to kick around I am sure there are issues that I am not aware of but sometimes an outside perspective helps and we need to change to continue to be a vibrant class.
