Hi guys, newbie to the OK class and in need of help. A few mates and I have bought entry boats and just starting to tidy them up ready for this season. I have stripped mine for painting but I can't remove the centreboard as the pivot pin has been glassed over on both sides. I looked at the mates boats and they are both the same, Is this normal. Is there an easy way to remove the board for painting or a matter of grinding the glass and bog off, cutting the bolt to get this out. Any suggestions would be great full
. Cheers Damien

Hi Damien,
It's great to hear you and your mates have started a fleet up north. With regard to the centreboard removal the pivot pin is usually glassed into the sides of the centrecase as you described. The centreboards have a slot on the lower front corner of the board which slides over the pivot pin and is held in place with a screw. To remove the board look up inside the bottom of the centrecase and you will see the screw which secures the board around the pin. Remove this screw and the board will slide out over the pivot pin. You will need to take off any control lines attached to the top of the board and remove the board from underneath the boat.
Have fun! Max Fry

Damien, where are you sailing from? I have some spare wooden boards if you need (No cost) as I have just fitted out a new foam one and have spare bits all around after 26 seasons in OKs. Let me know if you need some bits along the way and I will see what I can source.

Thanks Glen, Just pulled the board out this morning. Its roughly painted and old so I was going to just re-paint the old board but I am looking for a clear coat timber board if some one has one around. I would be more than happy with a new board if its not to much trouble "Thank You" I live on the Gold Coast and work at Burleigh Heads but we use Couriers Please so I may be able to get it picked up as im sure its better than what I pulled out this morning (sounds like a plan) Thanks Damien

Too easy Damien. Send me a link to my email glennyates1@bigpond.com and I will send a photo of the boards and you can have your pick. Both are in good nick, just a bit heavier than a foam one. Glenn
