This board is a bit under-utilised unless prompted, so I may as well pose some practical questions...
My trusty Queensport hikers have reached the end of their useful life. Does anyone have any recommendations (either favourable or what to avoid) on hiking pants? Obviously you try them on first, but that won't tell me whether or not they will fall apart or wear holes in my legs down the track.

Quite a few of us are using the Magic marine brand, competitively priced and pretty comfortable. They can order them in at Anchor Marine if they don't have your size on the rack.

i have used Zhik and SEA Gear. The SEA hikers are the most comfortable by far. SEA is a co run by Brendan casey and most of th Finn guys in Europe are now using his stuff. They are not cheap at $200+ but well worth it IMO Mark

Cheers - The Zhik ones work out even more expensive so sounds like sea are worth a look.

I also recommend the SEA hikers. Very comfortable, battens are in the right spot and don't move about like with the Zhiks. Iv'e had mine for 2-3 years now and will they are still in great condition. I got mine from NB Laser Sales ($250ish). Their website has a contact list for their distributors.
On the current theme, can anyone recommend good gear for cold water sailing?

I quite like the zhik gear but for the one nagging part where the hiking pads slide down to the inside of the Knee, can chaffe if not looked after. Otherwise they are good. As for warm gear I am looking to their full length suit as I have been informed that the are warm. We will see still recovering from the expense of a new sail.

For warm gear a SEA hot top (titanium neoprene) with merino thermals underneath (from Kathmandu I think) and spray top does me nicely for melbourne sailing. But you can probably do better these days.

I use the Magic ones, as they were the cheapest at the time. I had some Zhik ones, when they they were built in, they were good but wore out very quickly. I guess it comes down to cost for most of us.
It will always be uncomfortable, nothing is perfect, it is does not hurt hike harder.

Have a thought for my poor legs. OK, the next time I have to watch you disappear over the horizon I will console myself with that!

I am also in the market for some hikers as my zhiks are worn out. They do not seem to last that long or is it that I just sail a lot. I have been looking at custom made ones by NZ company called waverunna, look good but are expensive, www.waverunna.co.nz/. I am also keen on the magic marine hikers. They make three types but only one is imported to aussie. I like the look of the pro model as it has better knee pads, as I suffer from some sort of nerve twicth when kneeling in the boat. www.magicmarine.com/ . I am trying to find a supplier in the UK so I can get some pro ones sent out. Once I do I could order extras for others in mel if you also wanted a pair.
